Takedown Policy (archived)
Members post takes about shops on RoaringShifts. Shops can answer them. Shops cannot delete them. This page is the whole rule: what comes down, what does not, and how to ask.
Applies to takes on Shop Rep and to service reviews. Last updated September 2026.
The short version
A take stays up unless it breaks one of four rules below. Being negative is not one of them. The shop disagreeing is not one of them. Only the person who wrote a take, or RoaringShifts staff, can remove it — and staff only remove for the reasons on this page.
What we remove
- The author was never a customer, and the shop proves it. A take describes a visit that did not happen. The shop has to show it — a records check for the dates and vehicle described, for example. “We don't recognise this person” is not proof; members are hidden from shops by default and that is by design.
- Doxxing. Home addresses, personal phone numbers, licence plates, photos of staff's families, or anything else that identifies a private person beyond their role at the shop. We remove the detail; the rest of the take can stay.
- Threats. Threats of violence or harm against anyone, in a take or in a shop's response.
- A court order. A valid order from a Canadian court directing removal. We comply with the order as written, no wider.
Everything else on RoaringShifts is still covered by the Community Guidelines — hate, spam, sexual content and the rest come down under those, same as anywhere on the site.
What we never remove for
- The shop disagrees. A take is one person's account of their visit. The shop's account goes in its response, next to it, where everyone can read both.
- The take is negative. A −10 with dated photos is exactly the kind of take this system exists for.
- The shop offers a refund, discount or repair on condition that the take is deleted. Make the customer right if you want to — then say so in your response. A take bought off the page is worth nothing to the next customer, and we will not be part of it.
- The shop says it is defamatory. An honest opinion about a service you paid for is not defamation. If a shop believes a specific factual claim is false, its response is the place to say what actually happened. A court order is the only legal route that removes a take.
- The shop hasn't claimed its page. Unclaimed shops are listed by members. Claiming the page gets a shop the right to respond, not the right to delete.
How to request a takedown
Email help@roaringshifts.com with:
- The link to the shop page and which take you mean (the date and stance are enough).
- Which of the four reasons above applies.
- Whatever shows it — for “not a customer”, that means records, not a statement.
Members can also report a take from the “…” menu on it. Every request is read by a person. We aim to answer within two business days. If we remove something we tell the author why; if we don't, we tell the requester why. We do not remove a take while we look at it.
What a shop can do instead
Every claimed shop gets one public response per take. It shows directly under the take, with the date, and you can edit it. There is no thread — the member cannot reply to your response either — so say what happened and what you did about it, once.
Shops that answer their takes look different from shops that don't, and that difference is visible on the page. That is the whole mechanism. If you own a shop that is listed and haven't claimed it yet, start here.
For members
Your account is real to us even when your name is hidden from the shop. Write what happened, attach photos — capture dates are read from the file and shown — and change your stance later if things change. You can delete your own take at any time. A take that is removed under this policy still counts as removed by staff, and we will tell you which rule it broke.
